               Penicuik High School Parents' Association

           7pm, Monday January 14th, 2008 in Mr Edie's Office

                                           AGENDA

1. Minutes of Previous Meeting (Old PA) and Apologies (2 mins).

2. Election of Parent Members (5 mins). Our new constitution allows us to have any number of parent members, with membership simply   implying a willingness to get involved, by attending meetings  or otherwise. I expect that most, if not all, parents who are regularly attending would like to be official "members".    There will likely also be people who aren't in attendance this time, who should nevertheless be "members". Please let me know  if you fall into this category. Our first action will be  to approve this list of members.

3. Election of Office Bearers (5 mins). Our constitution says that we  should appoint a Chair, Vice-Chair and Treasurer. We already have a Chair and Treasurer, who can be "re"-appointed (though feel free to challenge if you feel the urge!). I think it  would be good also to have a named Vice-Chair, so please consider whether you might take this role on.

4. Appointment of Clerk (1 min). Unfortunately, our new Clerk, will be unable to attend on Monday. Fortunately,  she is still keen to act as Clerk for subsequent meetings, so we should appoint her for those (this will allow Midlothian to set up the mechanisms by which she can claim remuneration).  ** NB This also means one of us will need to take minutes on Monday.

5. Items for Information

      5.1 Treasurer's Report (2 mins)
      5.2 Chair's Report (5 mins)
      5.3 Head Teacher's Report (10 mins)

6. Parents' Guide to PHS (15 mins):  I mentioned this in e-mail a while ago. Can we get this started? Perhaps we could put together  a short "Parents Guide" to each year, written by the PA for parents, listing the sort of issues and  events which will  arise in each year, and generally "things you wish  you'd known at the start of the year" (for example, Jackie's comments   on the significance of NABs). The idea would **not** be to replicate  all the more detailed information which is available elsewhere and distributed through the year, nor to provide a detailed, exact timetable (because duplication is a recipe for error),  but just a "big picture" guide to the year for people who haven't been there before. Of course, this would take some effort to get together in the first place (which is where we come in), but could then be re-used, with a sanity check each year by the school, for quite a while to come. In my head I imagine maybe a couple of pages for each year, the kind of thing you could stick to the fridge. If one per year was too much, we could think about one for each of the obvious pairs of years.

7. Potential Co-opted Members (10 mins). Our constitution allows us to appoint co-opted members, at our discretion, but limited to be fewer than the number of parent members. Who should we approach?

8. 50/50 Draw (2 mins)

9. AOCB
